Patio Plans

When we were looking to buy a condo, we knew we wanted to have some sort of outdoor space, and ideally bigger than our previous 4' x 4' balcony (we did made it work though!). We now have a 6' x 10' patio and while that will sound small to many, we feel spoiled - ha! Especially because it has a perfectly unobstructed view of the mountains (something we didn't realize until we moved in because we viewed the place on a cloudy rainy day - such a good surprise!). I've got big plans for the little space. I want it to feel like a little Tuscan oasis, one that can be used for kicking up your feet and reading a book (with a spritz, no less) or enjoying a summer evening dinner. We decided to go with two teak chairs that can be used for dining but also recline for relaxing, along with a round table that can seat up to four people (we've got two folding chairs to bring out when the need arises). The balcony flooring is nothing to admire and so I'm going to put down an outdoor rug in a neutral colours. In one of the corners we're going to put a privet topiary tree in a terracotta pot. These trees are perfect for small balconies because they have a very small footprint and the leafy part is up and out of the way. I want to have a little herb garden and so we're going to have some custom cedar railing boxes made (if you're local to Vancouver, my coworker found this gem on Marketplace!). I'd also love to have a small lavender plant somewhere. Of course, no balcony is complete without lighting and so I'm going to string lights along the railing and place a couple hurricane candles throughout. All that's left are some cozy throws for cooler mornings and evenings!
